Happy Birthday!

It's a triple celebration. Happy Birthday to Sonja, Emmet, and me!
Happy first birthday baby boy. More pictures and stories of the crazy jungle party, Emmet's cake extravaganza, Catherine's extreme paper craft, Silas's magic scratcher craft, and Orrin's tea making skills to come.

Word Association

There is a shop that we walk by nearly every time we walk into town that has a huge plastic ice cream cone on the sidewalk. We stopped in a couple times over the summer for a 99, a soft serve vanilla cone with a chocolate flake stuck into into it. The shop is called Mace.
On our walk back from town yesterday, Silas is riding in the stroller, "M-A-C-E, that spells ice cream!"

Bah!

The knitting continues here. I finished a hat for Orrin and one for myself. A new yarn and craft store opened in town Friday. It's fantastic so it figures that it would open right before we are leaving. Probably for the best really, or I would have spent way too much money in there. I have one Christmas present finished and started on another, with plans fora few more. We'll see how far I get. I have gotten much faster, but still there is only so much time without the yarn tangler (Emmet) around.
Otherwise, we all have colds here. For a change, it seems Orrin is the only one who isn't sick at the moment. Emmet is doing pretty well. Silas and I are hardest hit. I am itchy and achey and stuffy everywhere. I've escaped coughing sneezing myself, but am have to listen to Silas's near constant attacks. Poor boy. I am getting him to take manuka honey though, which is supposed to be good for it. And we're all taking vitamins and echinichea, so I hope it will be shortlived.

It's getting cold

Here's the reason for the lack of posting here in the past few weeks. Sorry, not Silas, but the hat. He asked for a new hat a while ago, and dug through the yarn basket to pick out the colors. I found this pattern and adapted it to try to fit a toddler, and the yarn Silas picked out. I ended up with something that fit his head but was a little too short to cover his ears. So I added the ribbed cuff at the bottom to help it stay on, cover his ears, make it look less like a minaret. Well, I shouldn't say that so nonchalantly, as it took about three attempts to get the ribbing right. The first time I cast off to tightly and it didn't stretch big enough to go over his noggin. The second time was more loose, but still too tight. The third and final time, I ripped it all out, changed needle size and ended up with a thick fluffy hat from heaven. Silas was jumping around with excitement this morning for his new hat. Now Orrin wants one....

In Costume

Here's the last of the Halloween posts. Orrin, Silas and Emmet in costume. I was actually able to talk Orrin into dressing up. Silas was so in love with the face paint from school that he wanted something on for trick or treating as well. So I just wrote Happy Halloween and Trick or Treat across his cheeks. Next year he'll have to be something that requires an elaborate make-up job, so I can spend the whole evening telling him not to scratch it...(sigh).
In case you are wondering, I went as a bunny rabbit; headband ears, pink nose and whiskers, and cotton tail, but there is no photographic evidence.
