My sister Rachel sent Silas a bike for his second birthday. It's a proper two wheeled bike, but it is missing a normally critical bike feature, the pedals. However, it's not some bargain basement super deal on this pedal-less. No, it's designed to not have pedals and be used as a scooter with a seat to help kids develop the balance, coordination, steering, ramming, sweet jumping, etc. skills to make the transition to an actual bike easier. It's recommended to three to six year olds, so Silas is still on the young end of it, although he loves it. Even with the seat adjusted to its lowest setting, it's still the slightest bit tall for him, and maybe a bit heavy.
His main trouble is that he tries to turn it to tightly and it
topples over. But he's learning all about the importance of lever arms becuse he now knows it is much easier to pick up the bike again by using the handle bars near the top of teh bike than the frame near the bottom.

Our main trouble may be that I'm letting him ride around inside the house, and I'm not sure exactly when to break it to him that normally bikes are not allowed in the house.
"But there's no pedals Mom, it's only like a bike."

I think Silas's bike needs to outfitted like Pee-Wee's. Or at least he needs a bell to warn you when he is coming through.
That is so neat!
I'm sure he'll get the hang of it in no time.
Silas looks so grown up wielding his shiny new (like-a-) bike! How 'bout a little video of the two of them in ACTION?
