It makes me sad. Not only that there are women who think this way, and willing to be quoted no less. But that there are women who breastfeed who read the article and think, 'I don't want to offend anyone by nursing my baby in public.' And then do they forgo getting out of the house with the baby, because 'what if he needs to eat!?'
So a few bloggers have posted pictures of themselves breastfeeding. I think this is a fantastic idea. So here's mine. In all it's indiscreet glory. On the beach no less. I didn't even have sunscreen on that thing. Talk about dangerous.

Truly, I find the most embarrassing thing about this picture is that I appear to have the beginnings of double chin. Gross me out!

Lucy told me about this magazine cover controversy-ridiculous. It's so sad that even breastfeeding mothers are objecting to it. They should know that you're not baring your breast because you're exhibistionist or making a political statement, you're doing it to stop the freakin' crying.
There's plenty of great arguments for nursing in public out there on the internet, so I won't belabour this. What actually bugs me more is people thinking they have some right not to be offended. If I kept a journal of other people's public behavior that bugged me, I wouldn't have time to do anything else. Yet, perhaps there are more important things we could all be doing.
hee hee. i know it is not much to do- but maybe seeing images of breastfeeding more people will come to see as the natural normal thing that it is.
Not so long ago a woman showing her ankle or knee was risque.
You see butt cracks and cleavage every time you turn around. At least this is nudity with a purpose.
It's not like the cover showed a nipple or something, for all we know it could be someone's (facial) cheek with a baby attached. And that women in the blog is stupid, her son has probably already had the Sexual Education (or "Human Relations" to Peggy Hill)by the time he's thirteen.
How wonderful of you to post your own picture! I think this whole uproar is quite idiotic. First, men can't look past breasts as something sexual. That's 90% of the problem right there. The other 10% is populated by yahoos who forget that they wre more than likely breastfed themselves. Only in recent memory has the bottle been introduced -- how do these people think they they ever survived infancy? If mothers didn't breastfeed, babies wouldn't survive. That's all there is to it.
Thanks for showing us your lovely shot!
An absolutely beautiful picture!
