We drove over to Killarney Saturday. It's about a two hour drive from here. Killarney is a really touristy town, so we wanted to go before it got too much later in the tourist season. It wasn't too busy, but busy enough that I can't even imagine what it would be like packed with tour buses. We had intended on hiking around Killarney National forest, but instead hiked the Gap of Dunloe. It was definitely the longest we ever hiked with Silas on our back- about 8 miles total. Yikes! Thank goodness it was beautiful scenery and that Orrin and I could trade off.
We ate lunch at a pub in Killarney and had some ice cream and express at a place called Murphy's. It wasn't too bad, but I think they must like their ice cream kind of ice crystal-y here.
We drove around Muckross lake on our way home and stopped off for a short, but steep uphill hike, to Torc Waterfall. The lack of trail markings was a little alarming. I guess you are supposed to purchase a map in the tourist shops, but being cheap, we just wandered around and asked other people we saw on the trail. But we made it to the falls without any wrong turns, and took lots of pictures. There is also a Muckross house and trad. farm that is supposed to be pretty interesting, but we decided we'd save that for another visit.
Yesterday was Easter, and we were invited to Todd and Nicole's, another American couple living here. We ate way too much and had a fun time visiting, and watching the kids hunt their Easter eggs. Silas seemed to enjoy eating the grass.
Today looks like it will be another dry day, so we're going to clean out the back garden and try to make room for some green beans, broccoli, kale, basil, and zucchini. We have to figure out what to do with all the branches and weeds we pulled out. Maybe the recycling place will take them. Maybe we'll just take them up the hill and hide them among the shrubbery.
